Why Did I Have To Leave? A Review of The Point Hotel, Mossel Bay
“Ocean view”. This word had me jumping in excitement before I began my travel to South Africa. I am a sucker for stunning views and beach properties, however, I did not expect the Point Hotel to be this stunning! Located in the small Harbor town of the Garden Route in South Africa, the Point Hotel is everything dreams are made of!
The beautiful and humble property is located by the ocean and it has splendid views throughout the day and night. There is nothing that is not perfect when it comes to the location and the view this hotel offers.
The hotel is located above the World’s largest tidal pool and is the closest property to Antartica from Africa! It is built on the ocean rocks and it is the most preferred hotel for adventure enthusiasts who travel to Mossel Bay. You can easily view whales and dolphins from the balcony of your room (I did not believe this until I spotted a whale very close to the hotel!)
The hotel has a total of 49 sea facing ex-suite rooms equipped with a balcony. The balcony is wide and large which allows you to sit back and relax while you soak in the beauty of this land. The rooms are divided into single, double and family. I stayed in the family room which is large and spacious. The family room is interconnected and is one of the largest inside the property. There are two double beds in both the rooms, and one bathroom which has a tub and a shower panel. There are two televisions, separate seating areas and dressing area. The hotel offers Wi-Fi, tea and coffee maker, television, telephone, heaters and safe deposit box.
The only drawback in the room is the furniture. It looks like they are using old furniture across the property. The sofas and chairs are comfortable but they do not blend in with the theme of the rooms. They look old and slightly messy. However, if you prefer spending most of your time in the balcony, you have plastic chairs to spend long hours without hurting your feet trying to get the best sunset view.
The hotel is acclaimed for the cuisine it serves. They have a La Carte menu for you that is served at the restaurant. The restaurant offers five different cuisines and uses only the freshest produce to spruce up your meal. The Le View is a light house restaurant which gives you best food with the most dramatic settings.
The public spaces look a little bit congested. When you step inside the hotel, the reception is on the right and the bar is on the left. This causes a little inconvenience to the guests who are checking in/ out and also to the guests chilling by the bar.
Connected to the reception and the bar is the restaurant that opens up into balcony. There is a comfortable seating inside and outside, you may choose to sit outside according to the weather. Further, the hotel offers conference packages that caters to more than 80 people at a time and they also provide standard equipment for the same.
There is a Nirvana Spa which is managed by professional therapists. There are four spa rooms in total, including the couple rooms. They have variety of spa treatments available for the guests. Additionally, they have a jacuzzi and a steam room that can seat eight at a time.
In your free time, you could choose to walk to the coast line or take a dip in the Tidal pool (it is absolutely safe).
The hotel offers a number of packages for you to choose from. Irrespective of the type of room you book, you can avail of these services. They include free buffet breakfast, free spa treatment per person, free use of jacuzzi and steam room, free snacks and unlimited beverages throughout the day. You will only be charged for your room based on the room type, these services are available for free and are applicable to every room.
The service is excellent and the staff is courteous. They will ensure that you have a comfortable stay at their property. Apart from the minor aspects like furniture and the public spaces, this hotel is not one to miss out on. When you wake up to the sound of the waves and watch the sunset while the world passes by, you know every penny spent here is worth it.
