Weekend getaway at ITC Fortune Pandiyan, Madurai
Updated: Feb 22, 2019
I happened to visit the holy city of Madurai last week. Madurai is known across the globe for the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple. There is not much to do or see in the city, hence there are limited accommodation options. However, tourists from across the country head to Madurai due to religious importance. I choose to stay at the ITC Fortune Pandiyan which is a three star property located in the heart of the city.
About the Property
The hotel is about 30 minutes from the airport and only 4 kms from the Meenakshi Temple. If you are visiting Madurai on a business trip or for the temple, this is an ideal location for you. The hotel offers Standard Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, Club rooms and Suites. It has a simple entrance lobby and reception area with a restaurant on one side. There are 57 furnished rooms which include 11 Standard rooms, 12 Deluxe rooms, 26 Club rooms, 5 Fortune Exclusive club rooms, 2 Suites and one Presidential Suite. The rooms are a perfect blend of contemporary and traditional decor.
The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Every room is equipped with a television, iron, weighing machine, coat valet, fruit basket, bath robe, bathroom slippers and mineral water. The room service is quick and highly efficient.
The bathroom is slightly smaller in size as compared to the room. It is equipped with a bathtub and is neat and clean. The hotel provides basic essentials in the bathroom which include a dental kit, shaving kit, moisturizers and shower gel.
If you are here on a leisure trip, hit the pool. The hotel has a swimming pool, a restaurant, a bar and a BBQ restaurant by the pool side. However, when I visited, the BBQ restaurant was not operational. The restaurant serves excellent vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. You can also opt for the buffet lunch and dinner which is served at the cost of INR 750 plus taxes. The pastry shop serves delicious pastries and cakes.
The entrance lobby of the hotel is simple and elegant. There is a handicraft shop on the left as you enter and the restaurant on the right. The reception is basic and simple with a comfortable seating area. The hotel has a spa, fitness center and a well maintained garden.
The service is excellent, right from the check in to in room dining and house keeping. The entire staff is courteous and ensures the comfort of the guest. I would specially like to appreciate the services of Rajah who is extremely courteous with every guest. However, if you plan to travel in and around the city, I recommend to look for transportation options outside of the hotel. I found the airport pickup drop charges quite high. The cost of outstation rental is also on a higher side if booked through the hotel. Since they work with an independent transportation company, the charges will remain on the higher side.
The hotel is perfect for business travelers and the service is excellent. The overall stay was comfortable and relaxing. The hotel also offers tour packages in and around Madurai. I would totally recommend this hotel on your next visit to Madurai. The tariff ranges between INR 4,500/- to INR 15,000/- depending on the type of the room. You can book your stay here.
